Kite surfing: Daymer Bay Wind Direction: NNW Wind Stength: 18 Knots +/- Surf / Sea State: 1- 2 ft chop Air Temperature: Warm Sea Temperature: Cool Weather: Cloud/sun Max Speed: Distance Covered:
An evening session and a good hour or so until the wind dropped off.
It then picked up again around 7:30 so back out in a marginal wind leaving
my floatation jacket on the beach !!!
Half way back across the estuary and into a wind shadow, the kite dropping
like a stone.
Unable to relaunch I started a drag/swim to the shore.
A shift in the wind meant that I couldn't get back in so was just being
dragged towards Padstow.
Fortunately a passing boat through me a line and began to tow me back to
shore. As I was being dragged the kite relaunched itself and, as I had the
tow line wrapped around my wrist, it tore straight across my hand.
In the end I had to release the safety on the chicken loop climb into the
boat and the guy kindly took me retrieve my kite.
The hand was badly bruised and swelled like an inflated rubber glove
putting me out of action for the rest of the week, which was a pity as I
missed some classic conditions.
Anyway a comedy of errors with a couple of lessons learned
1) Be courteous to other water goers you never know when you may need their
help.
2) Don't leave your floation vest on the beach.............
it's a lot easier to float with one on !!
